It was only ‘A Matter of Time’

Following their last record ‘Ten Songs’, the Swedish quartet Winter are back with new release ‘A Matter of Time’. This is a big dose of country rock, being led by the very distinct vocals of Anna-Lena and chased up with the rolling and twisting licks of newly appointed guitarist Fredrik Lidin.

Winter certainly have their very own style and sound, definitely a slight European influence on a classic country foundation which lends itself really nicely to the record. Following in their previous form, the songs are based on tales of love and its various guises, heartbreak to lust, it would seem that Anna-Lena has experienced every one of its masks.

‘Face On The Wall’, ‘Cccc’mon’ and ‘Crazy’ are the big hitters here, all have big choruses and a radio friendly feel to them. ‘Face On The Wall’ leans just a little to late nineties indie where as ‘Cccc’mon’ shines with classic country slide guitars, Winter do mix it up but manage to keep their edginess on everything. The album ends with the beautiful ballad ‘Nothing Without You’, Anna-Lena and a piano, a really well written song with a compelling melody, simple and very effective.

All round this is a great sounding record, the production is excellent and Winter have again made a good record.
